For Productions With Their Own Camera Car or Shock Arm

The ChaseJib™ Rental program is designed for productions that already own or operate a Black Arm or similar vertical shock damper and want to integrate the ChaseJib™ into their existing camera-car or camera-cart workflow.

This page is intended for equipment rental only*

*If you’re looking for a full-service ChaseJib™ package with vehicle, technician, and on-set support, please see our ChaseJib™ Services page.

ChaseJib™ Rental Configurations

The ChaseJib™ platform is available in two distinct configurations, designed to serve very different production needs — from fast, efficient camera repositioning to high-speed, in-camera vertical moves.

Both variants share the same core mounting architecture and payload capabilities, but differ in speed, complexity, and operational requirements.

  • The ChaseJib™ Repositioner is available as a standalone rental and may be operated by the client without a ChaseJib™ Technician, following a brief orientation.

The Repositioner is designed for positioning only, not in-camera movement.

    Typical use cases:

    • Lock-off shots with no in-camera vertical motion

    • Quick changes in lens height and camera position

    • Productions looking to avoid extensive speed-rail or hard-mounted shock arm rigging

    • Camera cars or carts where rapid repositioning improves efficiency

    Key characteristics:

    • Slow, controlled actuator (~1 minute per 24")

    • 12V DC power (standard vehicle outlet)

    • Simple up/down remote control

    • Minimal training required

    • Compatible with Black Arm and similar vertical dampers

    Rental notes:

    • Available for client-operated rental

    • Short orientation required prior to checkout

    • Intended for lock-off operation only

  • The High-Speed ChaseJib™ configuration is available only with a ChaseJib™ Technician.

This system is designed for deliberate vertical movement during a take and incorporates additional power, control, and safety systems that require trained setup and oversight.

    Key characteristics:

    • High-speed actuator (~6 seconds per 24")

    • 120V AC control box

    • 72V DC actuator system

    • External top and bottom safety limit sensors

    • Mechanical powered e-brake for payload protection

    Rental notes:

    • A ChaseJib™ Technician is required for all High-Speed rentals

    • Technician is responsible for setup, safety checks, and operation

    • Client-only operation is not currently offered for this configuration

    • Choose the ChaseJib™ Repositioner when:

      • You’re shooting inserts, plates, 2nd unit, or pickup shots

      • You need fast, repeatable height changes but no movement during the take

      • You want an alternative to traditional speed-rail and hard-mounted shock arm rigs

      • Time and budget don’t justify extensive vehicle rigging

      • The shot benefits from a locked-off camera position once framing is set

The Repositioner replaces much of the piping and speed-rail typically required for shock-arm mounting and allows the camera to be repositioned faster and with less crew involvement than traditional methods. It’s an ideal solution when budgets are tight and the shot does not require in-camera vertical motion.

Choose the ChaseJib™ High-Speed Variant when:

      • You need a deliberate vertical move during the shot

      • You want dynamic camera motion without the footprint of a full arm-car package

      • You have a small number of hero shots where an arm car would be difficult to justify

The High-Speed ChaseJib™ offers a practical, lower-overhead alternative to an arm car when the production can’t support the cost, logistics, or permitting that typically comes with one. Because the ChaseJib™ operates in a street-legal configuration, it often avoids the need for police lockups or street closures — factors that can quickly drive up costs on even simple shots.

ChaseJib™ vs Arm Car — Choosing the Right Tool

ChaseJib™ is designed for productions that need flexibility and efficiency without the footprint of a full arm-car package. It is not intended to replace an arm car in all situations — but it fills an important gap when the scale of the shot doesn’t justify one.

    • You have a limited number of moving shots

    • You need fast setup and repositioning

    • Budget, schedule, or permitting constraints make an arm car impractical

    • The shot benefits from vertical adjustment or a controlled in-camera move

    • You want to remain street-legal and avoid full street closures when possible

    • Your shot requires high speed with a fast camera car.

    • The shot requires long reach, complex compound moves, or continuous dynamic motion

    • Payloads and offsets exceed compact mounting solutions

    • The production scale supports the crew, permits, and logistics required

ChaseJib™ Quick Guide

    • Lock-off shots with no in-camera movement required

    • You expect to change camera positions and lens heights during the day

    • Quick changeovers between positions are needed

    • Manual repositioning of the shock arm would slow the shoot

    • Budget or schedule doesn’t justify extensive vehicle rigging

    • You need a deliberate vertical move during the take

    • You have a small number of hero shots that benefit from motion

    • An arm car is impractical or difficult to justify

    • A fast-moving camera car is required for the shot

    • The shot calls for long reach or complex compound motion

    • Payloads or offsets exceed compact mounting solutions

    • Continuous dynamic movement is required

    • The budget supports street closures and police coordination

ChaseJib™ gives productions an additional option — one that can dramatically reduce cost and complexity when the shot allows, while still maintaining professional standards and safety.

Setup & Operation (What to Expect on the Day)

  • Mounting: Front or rear 2” hitch receiver.

  • Install time: 30 Minutes once top mount rigging is ready for the ChaseJib.

  • Operation: One operator controls lift

  • Positioning: Arm can swing into position without removing payload and locked into place within minutes.

  • Power:

    • ChaseJib Repositioner: 12V DC

    • ChaseJib High Speed: 72V DC Golf Cart Battery for Actuator + 120V AC power for the CJ Controller

  • Vehicle requirements: Any vehicle that can safely support a 2” hitch and the intended loads.

Shipping & Logistics

The ChaseJib™ system was designed to be broken down into multiple rugged transport cases suitable for freight or air cargo.

While final case configurations are still being refined, the system can be packaged for:

  • Shipment to location

  • Remote productions

  • Multi-day or cross-country use

Battery sourcing:

  • For the High-Speed configuration, productions are encouraged to source the 72V battery locally

  • Common options include:

    • Golf cart LiFePO₄ batteries

    • High-capacity e-bike or mountain bike battery packs (72V)

  • Battery sourcing guidance can be provided in advance

HBO Hacks S2 - 2nd Unit was the first to put the ChaseJib™ through a rigorous cross country road trip. They used the Repositioner.

Compatibility & Requirements

  • Designed to integrate with Black Arm and similar vertical shock dampers

  • Requires a vehicle or camera cart capable of supporting a 2" hitch mount with additional top support.

  • Final configuration depends on payload, vehicle, and operating mode

If you’re unsure whether your existing setup is compatible, we’re happy to review it before confirming a rental.

Safety & Production Notes

  • The High-Speed ChaseJib™ has two moveable external safety sensors to adjust the floor and ceiling of it’s movement.

  • The High-Speed ChaseJib™ includes a powered emergency brake which engages during any system failure including power loss or coms breaks.

  • Final configuration depends on vehicle, payload, and local regulations.

  • We coordinate with production on routing, speeds, and operating plan.

  • We can provide recommended mounting practices and checks prior to roll.
